Miia Magia’s past two decades of exploring the dancefloor with her groovy and hypnotic sets has been a labour of love. The once passionate clubber, record collector and lover of the UK alternative rock sound today lights up her sets with raw techno. Hailing from the LGBTQ+ scene where she is a staple figure and organizing various club concepts in Helsinki paved her way into entering the high school of techno in Stockholm. A beautiful journey through festival stages, warehouse raves and club nights in Europe, from Iceland to Germany together with Berghain, RSO, Sisyphos, Culture Box, HALL, Post Bar, Department and HE.SHE.THEY. Miia is the owner of Motto Sono Records, actively running the label since 2020 with releases mainly focusing on Scandinavian deep techno. A rare gem of a label, keeping the underground culture alive and providing possibilities for artists to release uncompromised music for the demanding audience as well as DJs from up and coming producers to heavyweight pioneers. Miia began her DJ career playing at clubs and parties across Helsinki, a journey that naturally led her to launch her own recurring club night at Semifinal, one of the city’s legendary underground venues. In 2004, Club FF made history as the first club night at Semifinal to be run entirely by female DJs, establishing Miia as the trailblazer she remains today. She continued breaking new ground with a residency at DTM, widely regarded as Helsinki’s premier LGBTQ+ nightclub and, in its own words, an “institution of all things queer in Helsinki nightlife.” Miia later went on to lead the Helsinki Pride parade for several consecutive years. At mbar, one of Helsinki’s most cherished cultural hubs, her Sound of Magic concept quickly became a beloved fixture and an instant classic. From 2015 to 2019 Miia was based in Sweden, making her way through the highly prestigious Stockholm underground techno scene. There Miia’s work was recognized with invitations coming in to warm up legends like Axel Boman, Cari Lekebusch, Dj Hell and SHXCXCHCXSH. Since 2022 Miia has been signed to Stockholm based booking agency Parabel. After returning to Helsinki in 2020 Miia created the independent label Motto Sono Records together with Cari Lekebusch, following the principle of releasing distinctive and unique electronic music with the definition; deep, but driving. Releases by the likes of Alexi Delano, Joel Mull, Roberto Rodriguez and Tapani Rinne and collaborations with Scandinavian visual artists for the label’s cover art have made scrolling through Motto Sono’s catalogue feel like visiting an art gallery. She is continuously working with her label, which has by the end of 2026 grown to an impressive catalogue of more than 60 releases. Lately she’s been touring together with HE.SHE.THEY., the London based, high profile club concept, taking her to Reykjavik, Copenhagen, Riga and Tallinn to play alongside Biggi Veira (Gus Gus), Exos, Anna Z and Kristin Velvet to name but a few. Miia is also preparing her residency at Finnish National Opera & Ballet for the Spring 2027. Alongside her work as a DJ and label owner, Miia has spent the past decade channeling her creativity into makeup artistry and jewellery design. Frequently collaborating with performing artists, she has created looks for musicians such as Jori Hulkkonen for a music video production, as well as for members of Prince’s legendary band, Cassandra O’Neal and the late John Blackwell, ahead of their Helsinki performance.
