She has been creating electronic music for 20 years, starting with her hacked PSP and eventually creating her own instruments: both digital via working on the live-coding platform strudel.cc, and physically as a trained luthier and guitarist. In 2021, Angel had a seizure that erased her memories, and challenged herself to relearn her identity and orient herself in a world that was familiar but unknown. This recreation and becoming of a character led to her defining trait of straddling the boundaries between different genres and worlds, bridging past and future: digital and analogue, EDM and post rock, organic and artificial. Her latest release “Coding Trance” marks a two year experiment in the code music scene that she has become an artist-developer figurehead for, creating expressive algorithmic cyber music contrasted with her vulnerable lyrics, and intimate polymetric melodies on guitar, expressing a deeply human core through code. Switch Angel is currently playing with her recent exploration of rave communities worldwide, collaborations in the alternative JPOP scene, and performances in virtual reality. As well as her touring international live shows, she shares her music making process online via livestreaming, performing and coding music on the fly to an engaged audience who has followed her journey for years. As an artist, Switch Angel continues to evolve and seek new directions to push her craft and maker-creator mode of expression, writing music using software she’s created, playing music on instruments she’s built, and performing groundbreaking shows for audiences she’s grown and loves worldwide.
