FreeSurf, real name Curtis Freeman, is a producer and DJ from Charlotte, North Carolina. Growing up as a competitive surfer, Freeman brings the experiences and lessons learned in the water to the dancefloor. He produces and performs music as he would surfing in the ocean, with a free spirit and open mind. Freeman says that he “imagines music is the closest any non-surfer can get to the feeling surfers call ‘Stoke,’” with dancers moving to their own rhythm as surfers would to the waves. Just like the boundless potential of surfing, Freeman brings a wide range of sounds to the table, not constraining himself to any one genre. He puts a focus on house and techno, with sounds of acid house, tech house, breaks, and drum and bass throughout his discography and mixes. For the past four years, Freeman has been releasing original music and mixes as well as performing at various venues and festivals across the country. Starting with mixes on Soundcloud and house parties called “House Every…”, Freeman has been grinding from the bottom up. Early in his career, he played renegade sets at festivals like Electric Forest in 2018, which led him to other larger gigs. He’s performed at festivals such as Elements Lakewood Festival, Home Bass, and Dirtybird CampInn, as well as opening for Steve Darko at House of Whobilation in 2019. In just four years, Freeman has over a hundred performances under his belt. Even during the pandemic, Freeman continued to be as active as possible, performing on many livestreams and virtual festivals, such as Quarantine Fest 2020, Holy City Sound Vibes, Soul Stream, Shipfam Livestream, Krew Up Anniversary Stream, and much more. In 2019, Freeman released his debut single “Callin’ Out of Work” with Jerry Feels Good and Currysauce. The energetic tech house track holds a vibrant, textured sound, reminiscent of the euphoric feelings that a day off work brings. Currently #4,470 in the BookedDJ global ranking.
